Dallas - September 28, 2001 - Excel Communications, Inc. today announced plans to close its UK affiliate, ETI.
This announcement follows the August 26, 2001, announcement that VarTec Telecom, Inc. reached an agreement with Excel's parent company, Bell Canada Enterprises (BCE), to acquire Excel's North American operations. The companies were unable to reach a definitive agreement with respect to the transfer of ETI to VarTec.
While discussions regarding the plans to close ETI are continuing, Excel is working to ensure that Associates and Independent Representatives are recognized for their contributions to ETI.
This includes Independent Representatives from the United States and Canada who have businesses in the UK through Excel's network marketing business model.
Customers, Independent Representatives and Associates will be given at least 30 days notice of the impending closure so that each group can make adjustments accordingly.
ETI's agreements with vendors such as the back-office support provider IBM and network carrier Energis will also be terminated.
ETI Independent Representatives, customers and Associates are also being notified of these plans.
